On Sunday June 14th LICF will celebrate Founder’s Day. This is our third annual Founder’s Day during which we remember and celebrate the life of our late founder the Rev. Dr. G. Shane Hibbs
In June of 2001, Dr. Hibbs was approached by representatives of a major denomination expressing their interest to have a congregation on Long Island. After much thought and prayer, Dr. Hibbs realized the need for spiritual guidance among the LGBT community on Long Island and agreed to start a church. Dr. Hibbs brought over two decades of experience in the ministry as he lead Long Island Community Fellowship. He provided vision, hope, and guidance to many who now have a spiritual home at Long Island Community Fellowship. This has stirred many to a fresh new spiritual awakening.
When we lost Pastor Hibbs, many thought it would signal the end of Long Island Community Fellowship, but Pastor Shane’s vision was so vivid in our minds and in our hearts that the thought of closing LICF was never an option. Instead the leadership rose to the challenge of finding a new Pastor and we were blessed by God to find Pastor Gale Jones. Under her leadership we continue to grow and serve the Long Island LGBT community and our Allies
Please join us for this very special Worship Service at 10AM on June 14th. We will honor the visionary that started it all and look to our future. There will be a video tribute, awards will be presented and there will be a Founder’s Day Pot-Luck Luncheon after service.
